Day 12: Risks to Spiritual Momentum: Shallow Roots

Read It: Matthew 13:5-6; 20-21
Live it: The weeds in Arizona are relentless. We learned this the hard way when we first moved here. Now; we’re careful to stay on top of them; but sometimes a few still pop up; and we have to go pick them by hand. There are definitely different kinds of weeds. My boys love the little ones that; if you pass a gloved hand over them; just pop right out and are easy to remove from the rocks. Shallow Roots.

The ones that are harder to remove are the deep-rooted weeds, and boy, have we had some of those that we’ve had to wiggle and shake and call in the big muscles (ie– Dad) to pull them out. Deep Roots.

You can look like a Christian and act like a Christian but not have those deep roots. Deep roots come when you don’t just show up but when you participate in your Christian life. You join a Focus Group or Training Day. You go up for prayer a few times when you need it and/or make a connection with another believer. You read your Bible every day, you share something you’re struggling with out loud to the friend who sits by you on Sundays, and/or you serve others with the gifts God has given you. Those are some things you can do to build deeper roots.

If you’re not deepening your roots, you may be at risk of losing your spiritual momentum. Will you commit to deepening your roots today?
