Day 5: Spiritual Momentum: Boundaries

Read It: Matthew 25:1-9
Live it:

April is off to an amazing start at Focus Church with Easter and the Training Days we just kicked off. This is a time of momentum for our church, and we hope that is the case for you as well! Maybe you have started implementing some spiritual disciplines in your life or started the process of improving them.

You may have people in your life who lack momentum in certain areas, which can sometimes cause tension. I’m sure there was some tension in the story that Jesus shared about the bridesmaids. In the story, five of the ten bridesmaids are referred to as foolish bridesmaids. They didn’t have enough oil for their lamps and found themselves unprepared. The other five were called wise because they were prepared and had boundaries in place. They had boundaries because they did not allow the five foolish bridesmaids to steal their oil. It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, but tension was present.

Think of the oil like your spiritual disciplines. The importance of boundaries enables people who lack spiritual discipline from walking all over you. We want to love others, but we also can’t let the unprepared steal everything you have. Relationships will inevitably have moments of tension, but establishing boundaries will help you navigate those moments and will often lead to a better place for you and the other person.
