Day 10: God is worthy of Awe

Read It: Ecclesiastes 5:1-20; 1 Samuel 15:22; Luke 12:22-34

Live It:

Awe is defined as a feeling of fear and wonder mixed with profound reverence, typically as inspired by the overwhelming greatness of God. Our God is certainly deserving of our awe but at times we forget to show Him the respect He deserves. When we choose anything but a God-centered life of submission and obedience we believe that what we know to be true is better than what the God of the universe and all life knows.

Today’s scriptures remind us once again that life is short and God intends for us to see it as a gift and enjoy the work, family and friends he has placed in our lives. You have probably heard the saying, “you can’t take it with you,” at least once in your life. We can trace that concept back to Solomon’s observations that “We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us.” (Ecclesiastes 5:15 NLT)

Wealth alone is not the answer to a well-lived life. Neither is a life filled with worry. Worry steals your joy and stems from a self-reliant mind set that forgets to tap into the creator of the universe for help. I used to be a world-class worrier. When the unexpected would hit my life I got lost in the “what ifs” which only lead to a downward spiral of negativity based in fear. I have learned that our God is faithful and have adopted an “even if” (God doesn’t answer my prayer the way I want him to) mindset, trusting in His plan for every situation in my life.

Fully trusting God’s plans over our own is the only way we can lead an obedient life that honors Him. King Saul, the first king of Israel, chosen and anointed by God, forgot this and it cost him his kingdom and his life. Let us not forget who we are serving. The all powerful and wonderful God of the universe is on our side and is fighting for us today. And that is worthy of awe.
