Read: Isaiah 51:1-53:12
Today’s reading is from the prophet Isaiah. Several passages in Isaiah either allude to the coming of the Messiah or speak of it directly. This is one of those passages that speak of the Messiah very directly. We call this three-chapter passage “The Suffering Servant.”
This reading divides into three sections: 1) Everlasting salvation for Zion, 2) The cup of the Lord’s wrath, and 3) The suffering and glory of the Servant. The key verse of this entire passage is Isaiah 53:10 (NIV) “Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer; and though the Lord makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.”
Let the Holy Spirit encourage you as you read today’s passage.
