Day 11 – Jonah

Day 11 – Jonah

Read It: Jonah 1 & 2

Live It:

In Jonah’s story, many of us like to focus on the fact that he ran away and ended up in the belly of a whale, which seems like a hopeless situation. Today, I’d like to focus on the fact that he didn’t stay in his hopeless situation. He was able to find a way out, and so can you.

What did it take for him not to stay in his hopeless situation? He had to come to a place of obedience. While in the whale’s belly, Jonah prayed to God and said, “But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.”

Soon after, the whale spat him out. Imagine what it felt like for him to go from the darkness of the whale to the light of the beach. What it took was moving from self-reliance to obedience. Self-reliance is one of the greatest threats to our spiritual journey. Is there an area of your life where you are being self-reliant? If so, I encourage you to say the following: “I realize I’m not God. He is, and I think I’ll let him be.” Now, make sure your actions continue to reflect that statement.
