Day 12: Ephesians 5:22-6:9
This section of Ephesians starts off with a controversial statement – at least to our current cultural climate. It states, “Wives, submit to your husbands…” Whew, I’m feeling a little prickly just writing that statement, but I (as a wife) can tell you that I practice this and have found it to be an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding way to live life.
I think this is due mainly to the fact that my incredible husband does not stop at the ellipsis – he continues to practice the reciprocation: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
In our relationship, if we both do what God tells us to do– Wife- submit to him; Husband- lay your life down for her–things run smoother, we are more in sync, and we truly feel more oneness. That doesn’t mean that we don’t both slip up sometimes. That’s why I call it practice! I am constantly looking for ways (as a wife) to serve and lift up my husband. My husband is constantly looking for ways to serve and lift me up (his wife).
God’s way is truly perfect.
