Read it: Psalm 23; Ezekiel 34
Live it:
Once again, we will consider a compound Yahweh name of God. This time we will consider Yahweh-Rohi (The Lord is my shepherd). In Psalm 23, David captures the essence of God as our shepherd. As a shepherd, He leads us beside still waters and into green pastures. All of our needs are met. We want for nothing. Even in the shadow of death, He is there. He provides a banquet for us in the presence of our enemies.
In Ezekiel 34, the prophet emphasizes the shepherd ministry of God. Ezekiel 34:15 (NLT) reads “ I myself will tend my sheep and give them a place to lie down in peace, says the Sovereign Lord.”
Jesus epitomized the shepherd ministry by giving His life to save us from sin, make us new creatures, and establish a home in heaven for us.
