Day 17: Prodigal son’s older brother

Read It:
Luke 15:25-32

Live It:

I am this son. Well, I’m not a son, and all of the facts are not identical to my story, but I can relate. At a young age I knew the path to Jesus, and I chose to follow it. My parents, pastors, and mentors told me that God’s way is perfect and following him will lead to the best life, and I believed them and chose that path. I never strayed from that truth because it was just that – truth.

My life was better than my high school friends who were searching for validation from a teen relationship. It was better than my college friends who didn’t attend church, didn’t serve, didn’t bring their tithe. It was better than my colleagues who tried to find worth in their work. At every stage of life I could see how, well, God’s way is perfect.

But I can relate to how the older brother felt. Sometimes I wonder why God blesses others in particular ways and doesn’t choose to bless me. Sometimes I wonder why a new Christian can feel so much closeness to God when I’m feeling more distant….

God always reminds me of how precious I am to Him and how He has shown up over and over again to reveal to me His ways are perfect and I can trust Him. Then, He reminds me that each of his children is just as precious, and I can choose to look on with wonder or want.

I choose wonder! I choose celebration! Everyone deserves a homecoming!
