Day 17- The Call to Ministry

Read it: Acts 1:1-10
Live it:

All God’s people are called to do ministry. That is, we are all to be about the Father’s business of restoring this world one person, one act, and one decision at a time.

Consider with me the different aspects of ministry found in our reading today. Luke, the author of this book, is using the gift of writing to spread the Gospel of Jesus to a world far and wide. Notice that his work is read even today by individuals like you and me. What a great ministry that outlasts his life!

But, then Jesus tells his disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they receive the outpouring of the Spirit of God. Waiting, the ministry of being close to God. Maybe one says that he does not have  any special talents for God. Maybe one says that he does not feel any special call to ministry. Here is the ministry: Wait on God, serve Him, and do what needs to be done. At a great restaurant, waiters and waitresses make the evening great. They see what we need before we need it. They serve the food with grace and precision. They help us when we did not even know we needed help! Are you waiting on God like that? Do you know his rhythms and movements? Do you know what he likes? Did you know he likes you?!

They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
