Read it: Proverbs 3:5-6, Isaiah 55:8-9
Live It:
As we read our scripture today, we are reminded that God’s thoughts are higher than ours, and His ways are better than ours. So why would we not take His thoughts into account, and why would we not live His way instead of our own?
For me, the answer to that question is self-reliance. Even as I start to see my dreams coming true and gain wisdom about what works for me, I catch myself thinking I figured it all out instead of thanking God. I gradually become comfortable, taking credit for what He has done rather than giving Him the credit.
We are reaching the end of this Binge the Bible on spiritual disciplines. As we come to the end, we have to be aware of the greatest threat–self-reliance– to what we have learned. As self-reliance increases in our lives, it erodes self-awareness. So, we must constantly ask ourselves this question:
Is my life self-centered or God-centered?
If I find my life becoming self-centered, I will do a few things: First, admit my struggle to God and someone I trust. Next, remind myself that I am not God; He is, and I’m going to let him be God in my life. Take time to let Him be God of your life.
