Live it:
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Our widow in today’s story goes to the prophet Elisha asking for help when creditors are ready to take her sons and make them slaves to pay the debt her husband left when he died.
Elisha asked what she had that was of value. She identified a solitary jar of olive oil. Elisha instructed her to go to her neighbors and ask for as many empty containers as she could get her hands on and take them back to her house. Then, following his instructions, she poured the oil in her one small jar, into the borrowed containers until they were all full. She was able to sell the oil, pay her debts, and live with her sons. Her trust in the prophet of God and obedience in acting on his instructions allowed her to experience God’s provision in this unique way.
When we pray for miraculous provision, sometimes it shows up in the mail as a check from an unexpected place. Relief, need met, problem solved.
Other times, God wants to take what we possess such as items of value, the talents he gives us, or skills we have developed so he can multiply them to meet our needs. And He does it in ways that are beyond our expectations because He is a miracle-working God.
What do you have in your possession that God can multiply to meet your needs today?
