Live It:
I am not a big fan of going to the dentist. Anyone with me on that? I remember a time when I needed some major dental work done. I knew it was going to be painful, so I took some extra- strength pain medication before I got there. I wanted to avoid the pain.
I let my dental team know, and they were shocked that I had done that. They told me I shouldn’t have done that because they would be applying local anesthesia. They said the pain medicine could interfere with the local anesthesia, mask my symptoms, and thin my blood. Not much wisdom in my decision, right? Worse yet, the pain meds I took might have even worn off by the time I actually needed it.
Sometimes we do the same because we want to avoid life’s pain and manage things on our own. We are often too prideful, and that creates problems in our lives. I heard this quote recently: “Pride is putting God on the bench while you try to win the game of life through your wisdom, your ways, and your work.”
You might be going through pain right now, and you need to trust that God will make all things right. That’s the kind of wisdom we need to win.
