Psalm 72 [vs 10-11 Matthew 2:1-12 & Revelation 11:15 & Philippians 2:9-11]
Live It:
Today’s reading is another of the great Messianic Psalms. We are just going to focus on verses 10 and 11 of this Psalm in today’s devotional.
They read as follows: “The western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands will bring him tribute. The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts. All kings will bow before him, and all nations will serve him.
In Matthew 2:1-12 we see a partial fulfillment of this prophecy when the Magi from the East bring gifts to the Christ child before the escape of the Holy family to Egypt until there is a change in the power structure of the nation of Israel.
In Revelation 11:15, we see the ultimate fulfillment of the prophecy. It says, “The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.”
In Philippians 2:9-11, we see that God elevates Jesus to the place of highest honor and everyone bows to him and declares him Lord. Let’s look at it as it appears in Scripture.
“Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth, and every tongue declares that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Hallelujah, what a Savior! He is truly King of kings and Lord of lords!
