Read it: John 11:33-44
Live it:
Life – a priceless gift from God. The birth of a child is often referred to as a miracle. And that is true. But our story today is not about the miracle of childbirth but about the miraculous restoration of life after one had died.
Lazarus and his two sisters, Mary and Martha, lived in Bethany. It was a village just outside of Jerusalem. Jesus received word one day that Lazarus had died. Luke, the gospel writer, said that Jesus waited two more days and then said to his disciples, “Let’s go to Bethany.” This was puzzling to the disciples because Lazarus was dead and by then, had been buried. But Jesus had in mind to teach the disciples, and in turn, us that He is the source of life. Without pressing the story’s details, at Jesus’ command, Lazarus came out of the tomb, very much alive.
One day, each of us will die. But at an appointed time, when Jesus returns, if we are followers of Jesus, we will come out of our graves very much alive.
