Read it: Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah 25:1
Live it:
In Isaiah 9:6 we read how the prophet Isaiah wrote about the coming King. He prophesied how God would become man and would be the Messiah. In almost every version of the Bible except the King James, Wonderful Counselor is used as one name for God. However, the King James version puts a comma between Wonderful and Counselor, so today we will look at Wonderful as one of God’s name.
The Hebrew word for Wonderful is pele’, which means a wonder, a marvel, something extraordinary, or a hard-to-understand thing. In the Bible, pele’ is not a word to describe humans or human works. It is strictly used when speaking of God or His works. The definition of God’s name Wonderful in Isaiah 9:6 is not the same word we use when we say “have a wonderful day” or that is “wonderful news.” We need to make sure we understand the difference between calling God Wonderful and telling someone they have a “wonderful idea.” When thinking, reading, and talking about God, we should have a wonder, marvel, and reverence for Him that is above everything else in this world.
One of the definitions for Wonderful is a hard-to-understand thing. Sometimes things happen that don’t seem wonderful. They hurt; they cause us to doubt. We feel things we don’t want to feel. Sometimes, they even cause life to go in a different direction than we planned. Even through those times, God is still called Wonderful. The situation may not make sense, but remember God’s name is Wonderful, and even though we don’t understand the why, God does. Remember to see God as Wonderful because that is who He is.
