We are going to continue the examination of the Abrahamic Covenant today.
We find the God-given general boundaries in Genesis 13 where we see the distinction between Abram and Lot, Lot was NOT a descendant of Abram–just his nephew (Genesis 11:31). Lot was not a recipient of the covenant; he was blessed because of his affiliation with Abram. In verse 15 God promises Abram all the land he could see. Genesis 15:18-21 describes the physical boundaries, and they are expanded even further in Deuteronomy 30:1-10. The interesting thing in this promise is that at no time in history– even during the reign of Solomon–has Israel controlled all of this land. Since God’s promises are always fulfilled, there is still future fulfillment.
Some scholars have suggested that this fulfillment is more than a matter of geography. It will also be a time of holiness and restoration (Ezekiel 20:40-44 & 36:1–37:28).
