Day 8 – Doubting Thomas
Read It: John 20:20-29
Live It:
The disciple Thomas sometimes gets a bad rap. When Jesus was going to Bethany to minister to Mary and Martha because their brother Lazarus had died, the other disciples tried to dissuade him, but Thomas encouraged them all to go with him even though there was great danger in doing so.
A little over a week after Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, Jesus was crucified. The bottom dropped out for the disciples. But then the resurrection happened, and Jesus began making appearances to the disciples. On the first occasion of Jesus’ appearing to the disciples after his resurrection, Thomas was not there. When the disciples reported that they had seen Jesus, Thomas declared he would not believe until he could place his fingers in the nail prints in Jesus’ hands and his fist into the spear wound in his side. How did he get to that point? He thought all was lost.
But then, a week later, Jesus came and appeared again to the disciples, and Thomas was there. Suddenly, his doubt turned to faith. Regardless of what is happening in your life, Jesus can turn your doubt into faith.
