Read It: Matthew 13:21
Live it: While writing my devotionals; I like to incorporate a personal story to enrich the biblical text; but today I would like to go straight to the point.
“Deep roots”
Verse 21 says, “But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.”
The fascinating part about roots is that 99% of the time, we can’t see them grow. In this biblical teaching by our Lord, it clearly identifies that the lack of deep roots will lead to not lasting long–in other words, quitting. What we cannot see will determine our ability to withstand trials and temptations in life.
The application in my life translates as this: the moments in life that I spend in private with God (prayer, fasting, and reading His Word) will help me withstand trials and temptations. So I ask you today: Have you been spending time with God alone? Have you been allowing your roots to grow so you can withstand those trials and temptations in life? Today, if you’re facing something extremely hard, maybe it’s a way of God growing deep roots in your life.
