Day 1: First Offering

Read it: Genesis 4:3-5
Live it:
When I was growing up, the one thing I wanted more than anything was a BMX bike. The freedom of riding around the neighborhood, the adventure around every corner, the thrill of flying through the air when I hit a big jump. Everything about a BMX bike screamed cool. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the money to buy one.

So one Christmas, my aunt and uncle found out I wanted a BMX. And wouldn’t you know it, they presented it to me on Christmas morning. The entire family was so excited to see my reaction. And I gave them a great reaction. But I have to be honest, my heart was broken. This wasn’t a BMX bike. This bike had a banana seat! Girls ride bikes with banana seats!

I was gracious in the moment, but I wouldn’t be caught dead riding around the neighborhood on a banana seat.

The thought was nice. It was a kind gesture and could be seen as a good attempt at giving a gift that was close to what the person wanted. In fact, some could say, “You should be thankful that you got anything.”

But is that how we approach our giving towards God? With an attitude of “He should be thankful He’s getting anything at all?” Or should we bring Him so much more?

When we bring our offering before God, we don’t bring our leftovers. We bring our FIRST and our BEST, and we trust him with the rest.
