Day 11- Worship

Read it: Psalm 95:6, Revelation 4:1-11
Live it:

Listening to a sermon, praying, reading and meditating on the Bible, giving tithes and offerings are all acts of worship, but today I want us to focus on the act of singing praises to our Living God.

Donald S. Whitney defines worship as “to worship God is to ascribe the proper worth to God, to magnify His worthiness of praise, or, better, to approach and address God as He is worthy.” Whitney goes on to say, “He is worthy of all the worth and honor we can give Him, and then infinitely more.”  When we worship God in song and praise, we are giving all praise and all honor to Him because he is worthy of it. When we take time out of our day either to attend a public worship service or privately turn on worship music and sing, we are declaring that God deserves our time and praise. During these worship times, our mind and heart need to be focused on Him. True worship is not just singing songs, but it is bowing our hearts to him. Worship requires us to take the focus off  ourselves, our families, our to-do lists, our work, our situation, or anything else that is going on, and fix our eyes on the One who created the Heavens and the Earth.

The Bible tells us that there are angels and creatures who surround God’s throne in Heaven, and they are worshiping Him day and night. When we worship God with songs, we are joining those angels and creatures in giving praise, honor, and adoration to the One True God. I get goosebumps just thinking about this. We are joining with those who are in Heaven giving God continuous praise. That’s just amazing to me!

God doesn’t need our praise, but He desires it with the right heart. When we truly understand that worship is not about us, but it is about giving all honor to God, something truly changes in our hearts and minds. God is gracious and kind to us when we do worship, and we can also receive from Him during these times. Spending time in worship is where our hearts can rest in peace, we can feel God’s presence, we may hear God speak to us, but above all we are devoting our time, energy, heart, and mind to praising the God who created us, loves us, saved us, and called us by name.
