Day 13: The Discipline of Study
Read it: 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Acts 17:11, Psalm 119:11
Live it:
When was the last time that you studied–really studied– the Bible? For me I think the first time I really took the time to study God’s word was when I was tasked with teaching it to others. The responsibility of that, the weight of teaching the Bible, caused me to dive deeper in. Although I had been reading scripture my whole life, when I really studied portions of the scriptures, they became more alive than they ever had before.
Maybe you’ve been blessed with an amazing pastor who does incredible studies for you so you have left it to him to study for you. Acts 17:11 shows us a different picture: a picture of the people in the seats fact checking what Paul was teaching. They were not doing this because they distrusted him. They were doing it because what he was teaching was so eye opening they wanted to see it for themselves.
Maybe this is the first time you thought about studying the Bible just like you studied for a test or wrote a term paper in school. Give it a try. Cut out a few hours from your week and study the Bible. I promise it will be way more rewarding than studying for a chemistry exam.
