Day 14- The Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin, and the Lost Son

In this chapter, Jesus shifts to things that are lost. Two of the three deal with the loss of community or fellowship. I’ll develop the Lost Sheep further next month as we talk about fellowship.
The lost coin was more materialistic; most scholars speculate that it had more sentimental value than monetary value. It might have even been that the ten silver coins were part of her wedding dowry. In any case, it was something very precious to her.
Most Eastern homes of that era had no windows or had only very small ones. Lighting a candle was necessary for the search, even during the daytime,
Perhaps we should compare this loss to misplaced car keys or debit cards. We tear the house apart looking for those items, not so much for their monetary value but for the inconvenience of replacing them.
We call our friends and family, “Please pray with me that I find ___fill in the blank__.” And when you find the item, we breathe a huge sigh of relief and call everybody back, “Rejoice! I found it.”
Effort is put into restoring something that has value to us. Jesus put effort into restoring us.
Point to ponder: if what was “lost” is fellowship or a relationship, which son was truly lost?
