Day 15: Leadership is Service

Day 15: Leadership is Service

Read it: Matthew 20:26-28, John 13:1-17
Live it:

When I was attending Bible College, I had zero, nada, nothing, no desire to be a pastor. I wanted to serve God, but being a pastor was not what I had on my list of desires.

I wanted to serve God, so that’s what I did. I served. I attended church, and I helped set up chairs. I cleaned bathrooms. I painted buildings. I simply did whatever needed to be done.

It didn’t take long for the Youth Pastor under whom Ps. Jenni and I were serving to ask a little bit more of us. We started leading small groups,  which led to leading all the groups and writing all the lessons for the groups. We were asked to help with outings, games, and services.

Soon, our church was going through a staff transition. The Youth Pastor was asked to serve as the Music Pastor, and our Lead Pastor asked Ps. Jenni and me to consider serving as the Youth Pastors. I didn’t have a desire to be a pastor, but I had a desire to serve God.

It was only through serving did I realize God’s plan for my life.

You might not have a desire to become a pastor, but we are all called to serve. Perhaps God’s plan for your life will be revealed to you by simply setting up and tearing down chairs.

Ps. Darren
