Day 15 – The Word Gives Light

Read it – Psalm 119:105-112 NLT

Live it –

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the whole Bible. It is divided into 22 sections of 8 verses each. Each line of each section begins with succeeding letters of the Hebrew alphabet.  For example, each line of the first section begins with the letter Aleph; the second section Beth; the third Gimel, etc. Because of that it is called an ACROSTIC psalm. This psalm is a 22-verse hymn about the Word of God.

Each line of the section we are reading today begins with the Hebrew letter Nun. It starts with a beautiful image in the verse “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” I don’t know if you’ve ever had to use an outdoor toilet, but when you are a little kid who is somewhat afraid of the dark and the “privy” is about 35-40 yards from the house and it’s very dark outside, you have a great appreciation for some kind of light to illuminate the path. I, for one, get it. The word lights our path to God.

When we get to verse 107, we discover the power of God’s Word to restore us. In the New King James Version it reads,I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.” That is what we have been praying and striving for in the whole Binge the Bible emphasis this year.Pastor Rod
