There are some people who are hard to love; that’s a fact. I know that in just reading that statement there is probably a person or two who comes to mind. It would be so easy to just cut them off, ignore them, or go off on them. That is what the world tells us to do about them. On the flip side, Jesus challenges us to love our enemies. Today’s scripture is one I think everyone who follows Jesus should memorize. Don’t just love the people who are easy to love. Love the ones who are against you. Have compassion for them; most of them are sheep without a shepherd.
As I look at what the world thinks of Christians today, I see a lot of use of the word hate, from both sides. People say that Christians are hateful or that they hate Christians. Why is that? I think it’s because they see a group of people yelling “you’re going to hell,” and it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of love coming from that statement. No one likes to be judged. So what do we do about it? Well, I say we do what the Bible says and speak the truth with love. The Bible says that we are to be recognized as followers of Christ by the way that we love others, not by social media bios, or what we tell others to do, but by the way we love others, especially the way that we love those who do not love us back.
