Read it: Isaiah 9:6 / Romans 5:1-5
Live it:
The last name for God that we see in Isaiah 9:6 is Prince of Peace. The Hebrew word for peace is shalom and is used many times in different ways throughout the Bible. The word shalom as a noun means “peace; completeness; welfare; health.” In the Bible, there are times when shalom was used to let another person know that another person was not there to harm them. For example, when one said, “I come in peace.” Shalom is also used when describing the state of the soul and mind. We see this in 2 Thessalonians 3:16 when Paul states, “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all” Then, we have shalom that describes the coming Messiah, the Prince of Peace. Isaiah’s use of the word shalom describes peace in a relationship between two parties. The coming Messiah would bring people into peace with God. The Prince of Peace is our access to God the Father. Through Jesus’ perfect life, death, and resurrection, we can now have peace with God, which means we are considered righteous in God’s sight.
Romans 5 tells us that as followers of Jesus, we do not live under the judgment of God, but we have peace with God. We are now justified in God’s eyes and can stand firm in our right standing with God. Sometimes doubt and fear can creep into our hearts and minds that make us doubt our salvation and God’s love for us. There might even be times when the question “what if I am not good enough?” enters our thoughts. Without Jesus Christ, none of us are “good enough.” ONLY through Jesus’ perfect work on the cross can we have perfect peace with God. You can do nothing to make God love you more or less. Rest assure that you have peace with God, not by your doing but by the perfect gift of grace from God Himself.
