I’ve been a Detroit Lions fan for almost 40 years. I became a fan because I loved watching their running backs (Billy Sims and Barry Sanders, who both played for college teams in my home state).
If you’re not familiar with what a running back does, they are the players you see back about 5 to 7 yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
I was thinking about why that is. It’s because if he were directly behind the quarterback or the offensive line, he would have no momentum to run forward. With his placement on the field, however, he has a chance to build up his speed and gain momentum.
Momentum is so important to our spiritual lives.

Today’s reading walks you through salvation, explaining the need for it, God’s provision, and how to receive it.
