Day 3- A Log in the Eye

It is easy to see and point out others’ wrong behavior. My 6th graders are really, really good at this. I don’t know how many times a day I say the phrase, “I need you to take care of yourself.”
Sometimes I wonder why we are quick to point out others’ faults and sins; maybe it is to justify our behavior or to make us feel better about ourselves because their sin is “bigger” than our sin. In God’s eyes, sin is sin; there may be more severe consequences for different types of sin, but sin is still sin.
Before we go pointing out each other’s sins, Jesus tells us in this parable that we are to deal with our own sin first. I encourage you to pray Psalms 51:10-12 and allow your Heavenly Father to show you where you need to repent and turn from your wicked ways. None of us is perfect; we all have sins we are dealing with in our lives. We all need the grace and forgiveness of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Now that doesn’t mean we are not to call sin out in each other’s lives, but we need to make sure our sin is dealt with because if it is not, I can almost guarantee that the person you are trying to help will not listen and will be defensive. When you try to talk to him, he will only see the sin you are not dealing with. We are called to help each other and hold each other accountable, but before we can do that correctly, we need to ask the Lord to forgive us of our sins and walk in a manner that is pleasing to Him.
