In today’s reading, we see how the tongue is a tool. But just like many tools, it can be used for good or it can be used to harm. The tongue can be used to bless God, but it can also be used to talk bad about people around us. It can be used to sing worship, but it can also be used to speak curse words. It can be used to hurt those around you, but it can also be used to hurt yourself without you even knowing it.
The book of Proverbs (18:21) states that the tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. As ambassadors of the faith, we must bring life to this world. We must use our tongue to bring life. In order for our tongues to speak words of life regularly, we must be led by the spirit. When we flow in the spirit, our flesh will have to follow. When we let the spirit fill our hearts and thoughts, our words will be words of life and hope. We must read his words daily and be filled with his spirit, so we can use this tool to bring life to those around us.
