Day 4: Knowledge

Read It: 1 Corinthians 12:4-10

Live It:

If you were to research the gift of knowledge, you would mostly find two very different descriptions, which can make this gift confusing. Some refer to this gift as “a word from the Lord,” and others say that the gift of knowledge is a deep understanding (more than the average person) of God and His word that can only be revealed by God himself. Over the next two days, I am hoping to bring some clarity to this very important gift of the Holy Spirit.

As a church, we believe that the gift of knowledge that Paul lists in today’s scripture is when a person receives a supernatural imparting of knowledge for another person, situation, or for the church. This word of knowledge, as Paul says, should be to help each other, and it should align with the Bible. Anything spoken “as a word from the Lord” that does not agree with scripture is NOT a word from the Lord. Like any other Spiritual Gift, this gift should be used to edify, build up, support, and help others.

However, there are two thoughts on this gift. The other thought is that God is able to reveal his truths to anyone, and there are countless stories of this in the Bible. Jesus picked some of the most unqualified men and women to follow him during his 3 ½ years of ministry on this earth. Those who take time to truly study God’s word can gain a deep understanding of biblical truths.
