Day 4: Time is a Mystery

Read It: Ecclesiastes 3:1-15; John 16:25-33; 1 Corinthians 2:9-10

Live It:

Whether Solomon’s words came from a place of life reflection, lamenting his own poor life choices or as a warning to young people, he is telling us to carefully consider how we spend this one brief life we are given here on earth.

Life unfolds in seasons, a continual cycle of change starting at birth, just as Ecclesiastes states: “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Ready or not, these seasons push us from the familiar into the unknown, compelling us to adapt and grow.

Each season brings challenging experiences, and we are constantly faced with a choice: to follow our own wisdom or God’s. I have personally seen the truth of 1 Corinthians 3:19, which says, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God.” When I intentionally seek His wisdom and invite the Holy Spirit to guide my decisions, my days are just better.

How are you choosing to live today?

Are you keeping eternity in mind? There is a familiar saying, “no one on their deathbed ever wishes they had spent more time at the office.”

Are you balancing the temporal (career, family, friends, health and education) with the eternal (making Jesus the savior and Lord of your life, reading and meditating on scripture, praying for others and sharing God’s love with the lost)?

Are you taking time to seek out even the smallest joy in each day? and thanking God for it, regardless of your current circumstances?

Ultimately, the choice is yours. When you look back on your life, will you have the regrets of Solomon or stand ready to hear the words, “well done good and faithful servant”?
