Read it: Matthew 6:16-18
Live it:
“Look at me!”
“Look at how holy I am!”
“Look at how much I sacrifice for God!”
Unfortunately, the spiritual motivation of too many people is to impress other people. We want the recognition of sacrifice. We want the accolades of service. We want to simply be noticed for how much work we have put into the Kingdom.
Jesus teaches us a better way, a higher way. Our motivation shouldn’t be to show off in front of other people but simply to serve our God. Our recognition and accolades come from God, not other people.
Be humble before the Lord, and He will lift you up.
Be challenged: the next time you fast or do any other spiritual discipline, keep it between you and God.
