Day 5- Moses (Self-Doubt to God-confidence)

Read it: Exodus 3:1-17, 7:1-13

Live it:

Today’s readings show the amazing transformation that took place in the life of Moses. In our first reading, Moses is portrayed as having self-doubt. In our second reading, he appears as the paragon of faith and confidence that we know him as. Through the transformation that took place in his life, Moses did not allow his past failures and present circumstances to cancel out his hopes for the future.

Moses is one of my favorite heroes in the Bible, mainly because I love how real Moses appears. We get to see Moses’ humanity throughout his story. The fact that he’s weak, doubts his call, and still messes up gives me hope that God can use me despite my weaknesses, doubts, and failures.

You see, when I was young I had a speech impediment. I stuttered so badly that I had to work through extensive speech therapy to overcome it. However, my experience of struggling with a speech impediment still left me with a lot of fear that I would always be defined by my past struggles, failures, and limitations. I overcame that fear by relying on God’s strength and not my own.

Realizing he wasn’t alone, Moses lived by faith, and his story still impacts us today. We can learn from his story and refuse to be defined by anything but God. Don’t let your insecurities or your past define you; don’t rely on your own power. Rely on God’s power.
