Day 5 Peter (Fear)

Read it: Matthew 14:22-33 & Matthew 16:13-26 & Acts 4:13
Live it:
When I was 5 years old, I was terrified of going to my grandparents’ house because they didn’t have much light in their huge backyard. It was extremely hard to see, and all the trees made it even scarier. I remember my mom telling me that it was the very same backyard she grew up playing in, and it was lots of fun. At night they would play hide and seek. How could they? They didn’t know what was out there. She told me that it was scary at first, but once I became familiar with it I realized it’s a pretty cool place.

Now, I understand that fear is a natural response to the things we don’t know. We fear because of the unknown. As Christians, we decided to trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. That confession declares that you will trust Him even when things don’t make sense or are scary. Even when fear is the natural response, you will trust in Him.

In today’s scriptures, we find a similar situation. The disciples were crippled in fear. But Jesus is saying, “Can you trust me? Do you trust that I will watch over you and protect you?” The more we know that He will, the less scary things are and the less that we will use fear as our first response.

Will you trust in Jesus today?
