The song “Do You Hear What I Hear?” by Noël Regney captures an absolute beauty of events told to us in Luke chapter 2: 8-14. The Angel of the Lord delivers the good news to the shepherds in the field. But I always wonder about the significance- why the shepherds specifically?
“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” Romans 10:14 NLT
The Savior of the world was born, and the good news was shared with some shepherds in a field. The story continues in Luke 2:17:
“After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child.”
As we read and hear this beautiful story about our savior, our hearts are filled with hope and love. But let’s allow this to be a reminder that we were also entrusted with the same message that the shepherds received.
