Read it: 2 Kings 5:1-19
Live it:
Naaman was a great military commander who was favored by his king for his many victories in battle. But the greatest battle Naaman faced was with the dreaded disease of leprosy, and his only hope was a miracle. Hope came from a young servant girl in his household who told of the prophet Elisha who could heal him. So off he went to Samaria to find Elisha and his miracle.
Naaman was a VIP in his own country and had expectations of how this meeting would go, the protocols followed, and the healing that would result. When he got to Elisha’s house, nothing went as he expected, which angered and insulted him, so he left in a rage.
Have you ever needed miraculous healing for yourself, or someone precious to you, and had expectations of how God would do it? When he didn’t do it the way you expected, perhaps you were angry, disappointed, or even turned your back on God and walked away. In those times, we must remind ourselves that God is good, trustworthy, and faithful. Often, He works in ways we don’t understand; nevertheless, we just need to trust and obey.
When Naaman’s advisors persuaded him to trust and obey the words of the prophet, he was healed. Miraculous healing for believers comes in many ways, and sometimes, it comes in ways that we don’t expect. Just as Naaman rejoiced in his healing and recognized it came from the hand of the one true living God, so too, can we rejoice in our healing however God chooses to do it.
