Read it: Genesis 1:26-27
Live it:
Genesis 1:26-27 is the famous passage that states that humanity is made in God’s image. To be made in the Image of God is the joy and dignity of humanity. But the name of God in this text has baffled Hebrew Rabbis since the beginning. Here again is the pluralistic form of El. Does that mean God is multiple beings? In some way, the male-female relationship reflects God. Does that mean God is both a male and a female? No, that is not what this plurality is implying.
Not until Jesus, the Word of God, came in the flesh do we understand the meaning of the plurality of God. The New Testament demonstrates that God is one, in essence, all the same. But, He is also three in person. God used the term “elohim” for the purpose of building a concept that God wants a personal, dynamic relationship with his creation created in His Image. We are the only beings in the universe who can understand God’s salvation and love. God, the Trinity, created us in His Image so that we may know God’s love, both mentally and experientially.
Now, we must ask ourselves if we are in love with Him as much as He is in love with us? God so loved that he sent himself, his only begotten son, so that anyone who loves him can have eternal life. Thank you, Elohim, that the name is a reflection of your character and your love for humanity!
