Read it: Isaiah 9:6, James 1:5-5, Proverbs 2:6-8
Live it:
Often when we hear the word counselor, we think of someone who is paid to listen to a person talk and then give counsel or advice to his/her patient. While this definition is true, do you know you have a Counselor you do not have to pay to talk to? This Counselor is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Another name for God that is written in Isaiah 9:6 is Counselor. Who else is more qualified to counsel you through life than the Creator of the universe? Better yet, He is your Creator and He KNOWS you; He knows every part of you. The Bible tells us that God knows how many hairs are on your head, and He knows the desires of your heart. Nobody on this earth knows you the way your God knows you. If God knows you more intimately than anyone else, why don’t we allow Him to be our first Counselor?
God is our very best Counselor. The One who knows all things, sees all things, and controls all things. He wants you to seek Him first. God wants to counsel you. He wants you to trust Him enough to read His word and do what it says.
From where do you get your counsel? To whom or what are you listening to for advice? We need to make sure we surround ourselves with people who will point us back to God and hold us accountable for our actions. The advice or wisdom you are receiving NEEDS to align with the Bible. The Bible is God’s word, His inspired Word for us. We need to read it, listen to it, and follow it. God’s Word should be guiding our lives and nothing more! I challenge you to seek God’s counsel first before you seek the counsel of man.
