Read it: Joshua 1:1-9, Joshua 6:2-5; 10:8-11
Live it:
Undertaking a task like the one that was given to Joshua– to lead God’s people to the promised land–can be overwhelming, but we can all agree that some responsibilities can be overwhelming, especially the ones that have spiritual implications. Like telling a coworker about Jesus. I have learned over the years that whenever I start to become fearful about something, I am often relying on my own understanding.
Fear has no room when we rely on God’s word. We take hold of God’s promise and continue to meditate on God’s goodness.
We take our eyes out of what we can do and place our eyes on what God can do.
Joshua’s being given the responsibility of leading God’s people to the promised land can be seen as overwhelming. But let’s not forget the promise that went along with that task: “for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
