Read It: John 19:16-30 NLT
Live It: Today we remember.
We remember that after Jesus was betrayed by Judas, he was held on trial. Jesus, an innocent man, sat silently as he was accused.
We remember that those close to him abandoned him. He was brought before Pilate.
We remember the crowds shouting crucify him. He was mocked, beaten, and tortured.
We remember that he carried the cross on the Via Del a Rosa, to the hill called Golgotha. We remember that he was nailed to the cross.
Hung between two thieves. We remember even in his pain he was full of compassion. Telling one thief, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” Full of compassion praying, “Father forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”
Today we remember. We remember the pain, we remember the cross, we remember the nails.
But, it wasn’t the nails that held him to the cross, it was his love. His love for mankind. This is how God demonstrated his love for us. He laid down his life for us.
We remember that in his final breaths, Jesus said, “It is finished.”
It wasn’t his life that was finished. It wasn’t the pain that was finished. It was the plan that God set into motion. Jesus finished the plan to rid you of your sin.
We remember that today it is finished. That when you ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, you are forgiven, and those sins are as far from you as the East is from the West.
Today, on this Good Friday, we remember.
We remember that it might be Friday, but Sunday is Coming.
