Read it- 1 Kings 18:1-40
Live it- The Northern Kingdom (Israel) under the monarchy of King Ahab had become so steeped in sin that God had Elijah pray that there would be no rain until he prayed to reverse that. The drought was in its third year when God told Elijah to present himself to the king. One day Elijah met Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace of King Ahab. Elijah sent Obadiah to tell King Ahab that Elijah was available for a meeting.
Elijah and King Ahab met that very day. Elijah confronted King Ahab with his sinfulness and the dire effects it had on the nation. The prophet also challenged the king to summon all Israel to Mount Carmel along with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Aherah. Ahab summoned the people, and they came to Carmel.
When the people gathered on Mount Carmel, Elijah challenged them. He declared that he was the only prophet of the Lord left in Israel while there were 850 pagan prophets. The 850 false prophets were to build an altar and prepare a sacrifice to their gods. Elijah would do the same. Whichever god answered with fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice would be recognized as the true God. Be sure to notice who won. Take note of all the things Elijah did in preparation for the sacrifice.
WHAT A GREAT VICTORY! The same God Who gave victory that day can bring victory to your situation as well.
