Day 10: The choice of two masters
Read it: Matthew 6:24 & 1 John 4:16-21
Live it:
When I was younger, I absolutely loved cartoons on Saturday mornings. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were definitely one of my favorites. There was an episode when Michelangelo was trying to do the right thing, and two little figures appeared on his shoulders: the good one and the bad one. Both figures shared their thoughts and advised why Michelangelo should listen to them.
As funny as the episode was, there was a level of reality that we as Christians often face. We are always presented with the choice of doing what Jesus is asking us to do, which is to love our fellow believers (1 John 4:16), but every time we have the opportunity to do so, it seems like the two figures appear and remind us why we should or shouldn’t love others. We have to make the decision to mute the bad and listen to the good. By obeying God’s Word to choose love, we choose to have God as our master.
This scenario happens over and over with different things in our lives. When we choose to follow God, we must submit to what the master said to do, despite any good or bad advice we receive. If we don’t, we could end up making other things our master instead of Jesus Christ.
Are you listening to God today?
