Day 10: The Flock of God

Read it: Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:2

Live it:

Our scriptures today remind us to care about others. These verses are very counter-culture.  Everything in our culture teaches us to think of ourselves first.

Thinking about others, guarding them, and caring for them often does not come naturally to ourselves. We think about our needs first, and that is reinforced in all of the advertisements we see. Ads that say “You deserve it” or “You need it.” This can reinforce the thought that the world revolves around us.

But it doesn’t. Yes, you were created in God’s image, and you were created for a purpose, but so were others. If you drop a stone in a pond, it ripples for a moment, but then the surface goes still, like it never happened. That’s what happens when life is all about us. But if we live unselfishly, if we give, serve, and love, the ripples go further. They touch other lives, and those lives send out ripples of their own. Suddenly, it’s not just a momentary splash. It’s a wave of impact that outlives us. What do you want your legacy to be, a ripple or a wave?
