Day 9: The Pillar and Support of the Truth

Read it: 1 Timothy 3:15, Titus 1:9

Live it:  In today’s brief passages, the apostle Paul is writing to two of the pastors he has appointed over churches: Timothy in Ephesus and Titus on the island of Crete.  He writes instructions concerning church leadership issues: qualifications and duties of church elders and deacons.

In the instructions to Timothy, he declares that the church is the “pillar and foundation of the Truth.”  Because of that fact, the church leaders must be taught and teach others how to behave within the framework of a Christian community (the Church).

Paul’s instructions to Titus declare the importance of having a strong belief in the truths one has been taught from the Word of God.  That is the foundation for having a ministry of encouraging others to also follow those teachings and to correct those who rise up against those same teachings.

You may not be a “church leader,” but if you are a follower of Christ, you are exerting influence on the family, friends, and/or coworkers around you.  Be faithful to the Word you have been taught so that you set the right kind of example.
