Day 12: Submission

The discipline of submission is one of the most difficult concepts to grasp, especially in our western culture. We have been trained to be an individual. We celebrate the rebel thoughts, and the rebel life. The picture of James Dean still resonates in our minds, “A Rebel Without a Cause.”
But the lifestyle of individualism leads to a very dangerous sin, the sin of selfishness.
I love how Richard Foster defines the discipline of submission. “Submission is the spiritual discipline that frees us from the everlasting burden of always needing to get our own way. In submission, we are learning to hold things lightly.”
Submission isn’t restricting yourself, submission is FREEDOM from selfishness.
