Read it: 2 Samuel 7:18-29
Live it:
Yesterday, we gave consideration to the Davidic covenant. In today’s and the subsequent three readings, we will consider the immediate aftermath of David having received the terms of the aforementioned covenant.
David’s immediate response to this grand promise was to pray and meditate on the message the prophet Nathan had conveyed to him. His musings include “Who am I?” “What is my family?” “How great you are, O Sovereign Lord!” “Please keep your promise.”
The concluding paragraph of David’s prayer is profound: 2 Samuel 7:27–29 (NLT) “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, God of Israel, I have been bold enough to pray this prayer to you because you have revealed all this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you—a dynasty of kings!’ For you are God, O Sovereign Lord. Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to your servant. And now, may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you have spoken, and when you grant a blessing to your servant, O Sovereign Lord, it is an eternal blessing!”
Has God made and kept promises to you? Compose a prayer similar to David’s and meditate on the goodness of God.
