The authority that Jesus gives us in our scripture readings today can either be intimidating or empowering. It can be empowering because he says we receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, but it can be intimidating if we haven’t ever used this power.
I remember very soon after I became a Christian, I had opportunities to serve, but the only position I felt qualified to serve in was to set up chairs at our recovery meeting. This was a very important task, but I didn’t feel worthy to serve any other way. My recovery sponsor helped me realize that I was worthy, and he pointed me to the cross. I soon felt called to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It was right before I was going to serve as a member of a missions trip. I was soon asked to lead the team. Although I had no ministry experience, I felt the power and comfort of the Holy Spirit in every conversation I had and every message I delivered. Do you feel like God is calling you to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit? If so, talk to a Pastor about it.
