Climbing the Generosity Ladder rung by rung. From Potential Giver to Emerging Giver to Consistent Giver to Tither.
Tithe means 10 percent. It’s the standard that we see throughout scripture. There is something special about bringing God our first 10 percent. We bring God our first and our best and trust him with the rest.
And even though this is the 4th rung on the Generosity Ladder, it is really the baseline that every Christ-follower should be living. This is the standard. This is scriptural.
And it is the only time we ever see the command to test God. Test God in the tithe, and he will never fail to bless you.
I once had a friend who decided to do just that. I decided to test God with the tithe, but he decided to test God by not tithing. He had tithed for years but decided to take a year and see what would happen. And wouldn’t you know it. He made more money that year than in any other year in his life, substantially more. But something wild also happened. Even though he made more, at the end of the year, he had less money in his savings than he had the year before. Even though he made more money, he had so many more unforeseen expenses that wiped out his savings.
I’m not telling you to test God in this way. However, I will tell you to test God and see how good he is by becoming a tither today.
