Day 2 – Elijah

Day 2 – Elijah – Pastor Rod

Read It: 1 Kings 19:1-8

Live It:

The prophet Elijah is a study in contradictions. He had prophesied that there would be no rain or dew in Israel until he declared otherwise. During the early days of the famine, he was miraculously fed by ravens. Following that, he was provided with a miraculous supply of flour and oil given to a widow in Zarephath. Then, there was the contest on Mount Carmel to demonstrate whose God was the real God, resulting in all the prophets of Baal being slain. After that, Elijah prayed for rain and God sent the rain after three and a half years of drought.

That brings us to today’s reading in 1 Kings 19.  Jezebel threatens Elijah with death, and he runs off into the wilderness and asks God to take his life.  He goes from the height of victory to the depths of depression.  How does that happen?

It happens when one loses hope and thinks all is lost.  But God shows up again, this time in the form of an angel, who provides three supernatural meals for Elijah, and as a result, he receives supernatural strength, gets up, and goes to his next divine assignment.
