Day 21: The choice to live generously

Day 21: The choice to live generously

Read it: Matthew 6:34 & Matthew 28:19-20 & Matthew 9:37-38

Live it:

To choose to live generously we first have to take our eyes off ourselves and the concerns of the day to see what’s going on around us. Worry draws us into ourselves while love and compassion for others draw us out. That is why Jesus told us not to worry. Instead, we are to see the people around us who need to hear the good news and share our faith with them.

Approximately 30% of the world’s population is Christian. That means that seven out of ten people in the world today have not heard or accepted Jesus as their savior. No wonder Jesus told us to pray for more workers because the harvest is great and the workers are few. And on top of that, we are to take the message of Jesus to our neighbors, our community, our nation, and the world.

This 21-day focus to choose to live generously has challenged me to look around — through eyes of compassion and love– and find those who are waiting for someone to share the good news about Jesus with them.

The Message version of Matthew 5:48 says it well, “In a word, what I’m saying is, ‘Grow up . You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you’.”
